I am a South African storyteller, singer, actress, speaker and agent for social change. I was born in Port Elizabeth in 1981, and studied Theatre and Performance at the University of Cape Town where I met the musicians with whom I would later form the band Freshlyground in 2002.
Freshlyground went on to become a household name and one of South Africa’s most acclaimed and successful bands. We captured the heart of South Africa and also claimed global recognition – one highlight of which was a collaboration with pop superstar Shakira with whom we recorded the official song for the FIFA World Cup 2010, performing it at the opening and closing ceremonies for a global audience of over a billion people.
As an artist, my work explores themes of identity and belonging. I believe that all living beings are connected, that our individual stories have value and that a part of my reason for being is to encourage others to move towards becoming the full expression of themselves.
I am passionate about sharing my experience for the good of my global community and am expanding my portfolio to include inspirational talks, encouraging others to be curious about their life stories, for their own benefit and for that of their organizations, communities and greater world.
I live in Cape Town with my husband and two sons and I’m currently working on new stories, music and performances as part of my solo repertoire to be recorded, performed and released this year.
